UK’s first GDPR compliance platform

Ahead of the introduction of GDPR in May 2018, we were instructed by PORT to build their media profile and raise awareness of GDPR. At the time, few businesses and journalists had heard of the sweeping privacy legislation. The challenge was to educate stakeholders on the substantial impact of the legislation, the need for technology solutions and the commercial benefits of being GDPR compliant.


As we were starting six months before the May 2018 GDPR compliance deadline, the key was to create a campaign which would still be timely to journalists and showcase PORT’s credibility. We also recognised that GDPR would be a very ‘dry’ topic. Therefore, we linked the effect of GDPR to privacy and security, as well as specific business issues – such as its impact on marketing. By using stats, case studies and developing fact sheets, we would highlight GDPR’s wide ranging impact and become a trusted source for journalists. This in turn would enable PORT to upsell its business case and first mover credentials.


During the eight month project 78 pieces of coverage were secured. Including pieces in The Financial Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Forbes, and several interviews on  Bloomberg and BBC News. PORT became the go-to source for expert comment in national and trade publications enabling it to win major clients such as RBS and Hiscox.
